Make up artist Cathyanne McAllister did the make up for the Tous l’eau advertising. We talked with her so she could tell us about her inspiration, make up trends and tips.

What was your inspiration for the make up?

I was asked to do someone who is fresh. In make up there is a massive variety, that means a million things so I asked TOUS to show me their packaing, their color schemes, their textures to determine what type of fresh we were gonna do.  So I used, you probably noticed in the bottles they have a certain color scheme, there is pale pastels and there’s metal and there’s crystal.

So I decided that I would use certain effects to reflect the idea of metal, crystal. This is also called L’eau, water of Tous, so water, metal, crystal. How to give this back in this freshness and keep it modern. 

How did you do it?

I highlighted her face with shimmers and iridescent on the lids. I layered on creamy blushes one on top of the other.  So I’m using, metal, I’m using iridescence; I’m using certain shines that you can actually kind of guess here in the light. There’s a certain shines on the skin, so the skin looks like is not wet but something about it looks ultra ultra fresh.

And the way you can actually do that is because you have the right tools to do so.

How can we achieve this look at home?

Less is better and a lot of people make the mistake of using more to hide, so in other words to get a beautiful skin like this, I’m using very little products but I’m layering them on, little by little and obviously you need good tools.

What is the number one make up mistake women commit?

For example they stop their foundation right on the neck, that’s a killer, don’t be cheap go right down and spread it a little bit further.

Sometimes their color scheme does not enhance their  face. I think when I say earlier, Less is more I think if you stay within your color scheme, skin tones and things like that you really cannot make a mistake.

Blush colors, browns, blacks and then if you are going into color, the good thing to know is that you can actually ask advice about that. Because there is certain color that will make your eyes pop, make your skin look fresher.  So mistakes is often probably a lack of knowledge, lack of advice, lack of tools, lack of good tools.

Make up Trends

A lot of it I think is to do with this berry color mouth, that is kind of cranberry, cranberry red, cranberry pink. I’ve noticed is coming up. I think is really nice to do your mouth and not just simply all the beiges and all the pale colors. To give you a little bit of a feminine mouth is nice to see.

What is your favorite moment of the day?

My favorite moment of the day is the morning, I love the morning I think when the sun rises I rise with it is just the energy of dawn, the quietness of it. I think somehow people with a lot of ideas and creativity the sun is around you, and energy of the rising morning my mind just floats around and gets a lot of inspiration of the moment of the day.
